A 19-year-old Long Island man was found guility for making false allegations against a driver, whom he claimed hit him the prior summer. According to the story, Derrick Vargo, the 19-year-old, who is registered in Tipp County and also with the Marines, claimed he was jogging at approximately 12:30 a.m to a nearby McDonalds, when car failed to stop and struck him.
These false allegations resulted in an economic loss of $21,000, as Vargo was taken on a Careflight. He was taken to a Miami hospital, where he complained of back and neck pain. He was released shortly after.
However, new evidence has concluded there was no accident. Accident scene reconstructionists found no evidence of an accident at the alleged site, and crime lab technicians found evidence that Vargo's shirt had been torn intentionally.
Vargo was served with a warrant last weekend.
