Arson is often classified according to the degree of damage and intent. The different classifications of arson include first degree felony arson, second degree felony arson, agravated arson, and misdemeanor arson.

Indiana Man Charged with Arson, Attempted Murder

Cary Leon Patrick, a 21 year old Indiana native, is currently on trial for a house fire that occurred August 18, 2007 in St John, IN. The Badgley family (Robert, Deborah and their two daughters) were at home with three neighbor children when the fire broke out. Patrick had allegedly been harassed the Badgleys’ niece in the months leading up to the fire. The evidence against him includes a receipt for a lighter from a drug store and a scent of gasoline in his car.

Indiana Teenager Cleared of Murder, Arson Charges

Earlier this week, an Indiana jury cleared Codee Wheeler of murder and arson charges in connection with the death of her father, William Wheeler, in March of last year. Prosecutors claimed that Codee had used an accelerant to start the house fire which killed Mr. Wheeler, 57. The jury, however, took only several hours to return a not guilty verdict, siding with the defense, which claimed that the fire was accidental.
