A former border patrol agent, who was fired in 2009 after expressing his views on drug legalization, filed a joint lawsuit with the ACLU last week.

The man told a colleague that “legalization of drugs would end the drug war and related violence in Mexico,” and that “the drug problems in America were due to American demand for drugs supplied by Mexico.” The colleague reported the conversaton to supervisors, and the agent was dismissed from his position despite outstanding performance reviews.

Do drug officials target users or dealers?

Posted on November 23rd, 2009 No Comments

Drug officials go after both users and dealers. However, as a matter of policy, many of the larger drug raids often involve dealers.

Dealers are often targeted in order to shut down the source of the drug trade. For this same reason, drug dealers often receive harsher sentences. These sentences can include prison time and financial penalties.

Ontario–A man from Brooklyn, New York has been charged with attempting to bring in a date rape drug into the United States. On October 16, 2008, the man was crossing over from Canada into the United States.

When the man was questioned by U.S. Customs and Border Protection services, he said that he was bringing religious items into the United States. He had at least 42 vials with him; the vials were labeled “Holy Water.”

After border officials became suspicious of the man, however, they sent the vials for lab analysis. Results showed that the vials actually contained the date rape drug ketamine.

Cops Bust National Prescription Drug Ring

Posted on November 3rd, 2008 No Comments

Dayton, OH–Cops have busted a prescription drug ring based in Ohio run by a doctor and 16 other accomplices. The way the scheme worked was that the “doctor” would collect a $100 fee from “patients.” In return, the “patients” would receive a prescription for what is knows as a 360 degree cocktail, a mix of various prescription drugs. Then, those “patients” would resell those drugs at the street level.

Drugs from the ring are believed to have been sent as far Florida and have a total value around $5 million.

The police investigation began several weeks after the “doctor” came into business and lasted for 11 month. Police have found no evidence that the “doctor” treated real patients.
